YO! Where is the Sistas Place any way? Is it behind, in front of, or beside her man? Is this a physical place, where sistas of like minds commune to console each other in the midst of shared thoughts and feelings? Or is it some abstract imaginary place where sistas burrow inside themselves to seek refuge, inner peace and serenity? Does the sista really have a place in this male dominated society? Should a sistas place be in the hearts of all those who see her struggling to make it? Or should we, women warriors, fight to the bloody end, while being mindful of the fact that very little attention will be paid to our life sacrifices anyhow?

I ponder these questions and invite you to ponder them as well, in hopes of defining a place where sistas can find comfort in being who we are. We all know many a dynamic, innovative, and extraordinary sista who has graced our lives with her presence. Unfortunately, few have been able to reach high levels of achievement without being slighted or overshadowed by male counterparts. We especially have to question our place in the work force, where leadership positions are very rarely given to or taken by sistas. Why is it that sistas have to work doubly as hard to achieve and reach the same heights of others who do less? Is it because we have two strikes against us: being female in a male dominated world, and black i n a white world?

I am more than certain we have all pondered these impending questions. More and more I am beginning to feel that maybe we as sistas don't give our selves enough credit for the contributions we make and have made to society. People say sistas are loud, but some one has yet to tell me what were saying. Maybe we are so loud because no one is listening...not even brothas. We are searching for a place where we too may disrobe and be vulnerable without being overcome with feelings of fear and uncertainty. A place where we can throw away the guise of a hegemonic society that has diminished our thrones to administrative assistant positions. Where is the Sista's Place really?
