He's a celebrated steelpan tuner and pioneer, he is: Ellie Mannette who'll be in New York for a Pan Clinic on Sunday April 20, 2003. In our continued efforts to provide access to historical figures, and education and/or critical information as relates to the steelband movement worldwide, Basement Recordings, Inc. through its When Steel Talks subsidiary, presents Ellie Mannette to the Tri-State pan community.
Ellie Mannette's dedication and innovations revolutionized and contributed to the popularization of the steelpan instrument and movement at large. Now, as part of the When Steel Talks series of unique steelband-related presentations, Ellie's years of experience are in the spotlight in the Tri-State area, and is being hosted for the first time ever in New York. He is arguably one of the world's best pan tuners.
The session gets underway from 2:00 P.M. Meet, greet and interact with Ellie in an intimate forum, as he showcases his family of steelpan instruments and accessories. One of New York's best known steelbands, Dem Stars, will be hosting the event at their winter home: the DEM STARS PAN THEATER, 8520 FOSTER AVENUE, (between East 85th & East 86th Sts., Brooklyn, N.Y.) - Upstairs Star Caribbean Shippers.
