Association Election Results
Keith Marcelle Chairperson Board of
Trustees, Horace L. Morancie President, Margaret “Kathy” Clarke
Treasurer, and Clyde Henry Director of Business Management are the
re-elected Officers/Executive Committee Members of the United States
Steelband Association, Inc. (USSA, Inc). New Officers/Executive
Committee Members are Frederica “Maurina” Lester Recording
Secretary, Lennox Jacob Assistant Treasurer, and Anthony Hinds
Director of Public Relations. In addition, the Trustees at their
Saturday, March 23, 2002 meeting elected Mr. Morancie Executive
Secretary, and Mr. Henry Parliamentarian/Sergeant-at-Arms.
Officers/Executive Committee members will serve for a period of two
(2) years.
At their 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.,
Saturday, March 23, 2002 meeting Delegates from member Steel
Orchestras of the USSA, Inc. elected their Board of Trustees,
Officers, Executive Committee Members and eight (8) Standing
Committee Chairpersons. The Board of Trustees is responsible for
establishing policies; maintaining quality operations; promoting
continuous improvements and developments; and approving an annual
financial plan and operating budget. Trustees elected to serve for a
period of two years and the Steel Orchestras they represent are
Margaret Clarke (Adlib Youth and Cultural Organization), Joseph
“Franklin” Gerald (Caribbean Youth Panoramics), Anthony Hinds (Dem
Stars), Verne Rosemin (Despers USA), Cyrus Busby (Harlem All Stars),
Lenox Leverock (Invaders), Lennox Jacob (Marscians), Clyde Henry
(New York All Stars), Angela Howard (NY Nutones), Egbert Reid (Pan
Rebels), Brian Joseph (Pantonic), Keith Marcelle (Sesame Flyers),
Frederica “Maurina” Lester (Sonatas). Other confirmed but absent
Trustees are Joseph Olivache (Brooklynaires), Magnus Scanterbury
(Pan Ambassadors) and Errol Selby (TASSO USA). Trustee confirmations
are pending from Moods Pan Grove, Pan Ivory, and Utopia Youth Pan
Soul.
Chairpersons of the eight Standing
Committees are Finance Margaret Clarke; Ethics, Legal and By Laws
Angela Howard; Events Brian Joseph; Youth Council, and Awards Cyrus
Busby; Partnership Anthony Hinds; Facilities Joseph “Franklin”
Gerald; and Government Affairs Horace L. Morancie. Secret ballots
were tallied and the results reported by Gloria Church,
Vice-Chairperson of CARICOM People’s Movement. A minimum of two (2)
additional members of each Standing Committee and the Chairpersons
and members of additional Standing Committees will be elected at the
Board of Trustees regular meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 25,
2002. Regular meetings of the Board of Trustees will be held on the
4th Thursday of each month and Special Meetings are
scheduled as required.
Public introduction of trustees and
officers of USSA, Inc .is scheduled for April 17, 2002. The
Executive Committee will meet on Thursday, April 4, 2002. Scheduled
for discussion at this meeting are Partnership Agreements. A special
meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 6, 2002 to complete plans
for USSA, Inc./The Immigrants Journal partnership PANORAMA 2002 and
pre and post PANORAMA 2002 activities including fund raising events.
In addition continuing of seminars in finance and insurance to
insure transparency will be scheduled.
The meeting capped with the
watchwords “Together Each Achieve More -
TEAM” ended with the reciting of the USSA, Inc. solemn pledge, in
the sight of God. The pledge included loyalty, dedication, service,
support, and working together to fulfill the mission and objectives
of the corporation; and to promote the culture and art form of the
Steel Pan the only acoustic musical instrument invented in the 21st
Century.
