New York - Feb 18, 2003 A
quietly confident Len 'Boogsie' Sharpe, Leader and Arranger for one of
Trinidad's well- established steel orchestras - Phase II Pan Groove -
chatted with "When Steel Talks" for the second time in less than two weeks.
The 'pre-preliminaries' previously emphatic Boogsie, was this time more
thoughtful as he acknowledged his band's accomplishment so far in the race
for the 40th Panorama Championship in Trinidad, culminating in the finals on
Saturday March 1, 2003 in which thirteen bands, including Defending champs
Trinidad All Stars, are vying for top honours. Noting that it was fifteen years since Phase II had won the coveted Panorama Championships, he reflected that his band also garnered the most 'second place' positions in the history of the Panorama, usually by the difference of one, or more astoundingly - just a half point! This reality is what made Boogsie keep his presently envied place at the 'head of the pack' in perspective, and tempered any presumptions and premature celebrations on his part.
