Symphony Commands The Respect of Indeed, the audience's enjoyment of the performance was enhanced by its recognition of the smooth execution of complicated harmonies and difficult passages by ADLIB. For this effort the orchestra received a resounding ovation from the full audience after they concluded their set. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Steel Pan Jazz
It was an evening of fabulous music, a night to remember, one for the history books, a veritable “who’s who” parade from the global pan community, a “Pantastic” event at the world renowned Lincoln Center. All these are but a few of the descriptions befitting the gala concert of Steel Pan Jazz held at New York’s 1,096-seat Alice Tully Hall for a beautiful spring Father's evening on June 20th. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Musical Movements at Annual Multicultural Festival Kings Plaza in Brooklyn, New York was transformed into a musical and cultural mecca with music from some of tri-state’s better known steelbands including: Pantonic Steel Orchestra, Women in Steel and Pan Ambassadors. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CrossFire Puts
on The New York Pan Season is much more than panorama. There was lots of love, hugs, kisses, warm embraces, greetings and war. The weapons of mass fun are out in full force... Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Notting Hill Carnival The fifth annual British Association of Steel bands’ Pan Explosion was held on Sunday 2nd May 2004 at the Tabernacle in Powis Square, London. The ensemble competition saw Ebony Steelband retaining its title under the musical directorship of Carline Etienne. The Pan people came out to play the weekend of Washington D.C.'s annual carnival. A fabulous Saturday on 26 June played host to fine pan music in the streets. Here's a look in pictures. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE MATURIZATION The first annual Steel Pan Jazz Concert was held on Father’s Day at the prestigious Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center. The major musical event promoted by Abstract Entertainment, Inc. was very successful with a sizeable audience who were provided with scintillating music and near perfect fusions of calypso, jazz, samba, classical and other musical genres. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Who Was There - The artists stared not only on stage at the Alice Tully Hall, but backstage as well. To see them at their musical best, many people made it their business, to be at the Sunday evening affair, and When Steel Talks was on hand to capture some of them in pictures... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Steel Pan and Jazz Lovers
It may have been Father’s Day, but the ladies were treated to sexy saxophonist Arturo Tappin. Tappin had women of all ages dancing in their seats. “Tappin looks good and can really blow,” said steel pan fan, Elvia Darkins. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Whatever the outcome the fans leave and the lights go out. The lights went out at Lincoln Center after Abstract Entertainment’s “Acoustic Revolution” concert and like all good concerts, steel-pan and jazz aficionados left wanting more. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ An intimate and well-attended VIP reception was held earlier in the Rhum Lounge at New York's Negril restaurant located in the trendy downtown "Village" area. The meet-and-greet session for the Father's Day June 20th Steelpan Jazz Concert, billed as "An Acoustic Revolution", was a well-attended, three-hour affair. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Junior Secondary School Steelpan Ensemble Botswana, Africa
The Prime Minister of Barbados, The Right Hon Owen Arthur was pleasantly surprised when he got a steelpan and mokojumbies welcome on arrival at the Gaborone Sun Hotel. Mr. Arthur was on a six-day State Visit to the landlocked Botswana ahead of the ACP Conference carded for Maputo, Mozambique.
Move Over Beethoven The high level musical performances by the artists and strong patron support were fantastic. The upscale sophisticated audience reflected the diverse changing economic, social and cultural landscape of New York city's population and age. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now that I've relocated to New York City, I felt it would be a crime against myself to not attend the Father's Day Pan Jazz concert at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. One month in advance I bought myself a ticket in the center of the orchestra section. By the time the show began, my anticipation had grown almost unbearable ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Held in MFO Park in Bahnhof Zurich Oerlikon during the weekend of the 25-27th June 2004, this government-assisted annual event celebrated its third anniversary with the Steelband Festival. Twenty-six Swiss steelbands performed over the three-day period. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
