The NYPD's brand-new Steel Drum Band made
its debut at the West Indian American Day Carnival
Parade yesterday with some all-star guests.
The band got rave reviews from musician Wyclef Jean,
a parade grand marshal who joined in for an impromptu
jam session along Eastern Parkway.
Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly
also took turns on the steel drums.
"The steel band was hot!" Jean said.
Kelly created the band, which includes some members
of the NYPD Marching Band, just last month.
The 15 members have been practicing on their own and
led yesterday's parade on a police truck.
